Unlock Your Potential: The 10 Mindsets for the Modern Working Woman
At Women of Our Time, we believe that every woman deserves the right information, advice, and guidance (IAG) to thrive in her career. That’s why we’re exploring powerful mindsets that can help you navigate the ever-changing world of work and achieve your goals.
Why Mindsets Matter
Our mindsets—the beliefs that shape how we view ourselves and the world—are fundamental to our success. They influence the choices we make and determine how we respond to challenges. Psychology shows that a positive, proactive mindset gives us a sense of control over our lives. We can’t always control external events, but we can control our reactions and decisions. This is often referred to as the "circle of control" where we focus on what we can influence rather than what is outside of our power.
By taking responsibility for our mindsets and choices, we are practising personal leadership, which is about taking ownership of our own journey and leading ourselves.
While the original AMOC report was born out of the challenges of a global crisis, its findings are more relevant than ever. The ten mindsets identified are not just for leaders in a corporate setting; they translate to every woman in any role. They provide a framework for navigating everyday life issues, maximising opportunities, and dealing with challenges in a world that is always changing.
Over the next few weeks, we will be publishing a series of blogs that explore each of these mindsets in more detail.
Here are the 10 interconnected mindsets that can help you succeed, infused with self-belief and courage:
Self-Awareness 🧠 Good leaders know themselves—their values, strengths, and weaknesses. For women, this means understanding how you show up at work and how your actions are perceived by others. Be open to challenging your beliefs and assumptions.
Conscious Leadership 💖 This is about making mindful decisions and understanding their impact on others. A conscious leader is compassionate, empathetic, and a good listener. These are qualities that women often naturally possess and can leverage to build strong, supportive relationships.
Vulnerability 🙏 Being authentic is key. People don't expect their leaders to be robotic. Admitting when you're wrong or don't have all the answers builds trust and credibility. As a woman, showing your human side is a strength, not a weakness.
Ethical Leadership ✨ Doing the right thing by people and keeping your promises gains respect throughout an organisation. This mindset is about making decisions with integrity and being mindful of your impact on the wider community.
Mental Toughness 💪 This is the ability to take control in a crisis and display a "will to win" in challenging conditions. The report found that many leaders felt immense pressure and had to manage their own well-being while prioritising their teams.
Growth Mindset 🌱 This mindset is about embracing change and stepping outside your comfort zone. It’s also about learning from mistakes. Leaders with a growth mindset are visionary and determined, always looking at what the future could hold.
Learning Mindset 📚 Great leaders have a thirst for knowledge and a natural curiosity. They are not afraid to admit when they don't know the answer and will actively seek it out. This mindset encourages continuous self-improvement and development.
Optimism ☀️ An optimistic leader creates a sense of purpose for themselves and their team, even in difficult times. By providing clarity through transparent communication, they inspire greater engagement and encourage their staff to stand with them.
Can Do ✅ These leaders are courageous role models who roll up their sleeves and get stuck in. They have a pragmatic approach and show a clear will to win, demonstrating that they are part of the team.
Opportunistic 💡 This is about being one step ahead and seeing what's on the horizon. Opportunistic leaders seize moments to influence their peers and are not afraid to think differently. They are excited by innovation and new ideas.
By cultivating these 10 mindsets, you can not only navigate challenges of the mindsets for modern working women but also create new opportunities for yourself. It’s a matter of choice to take control of your career journey.
